Rental & Checkout Requirements

No checkout required for flight with a Sawyer Aviation Instructor on board.

Solo Turbo 182 Skylane Rental: To fly Sawyer Aviation's solo, (without a Sawyer Aviation instructor on board), pilots must at least have the following:*

• Valid FAA single-engine land pilot license & current medical certificate

• High-performance endorsement (may be accomplished with checkout)

• Pilots with 200hrs total time and/or an instrument rating: Must satisfactorily complete the aircraft checkout process including 5hrs dual flight instruction in the aircraft. 

• Pilots without 200hrs and/or an instrument rating: Must satisfactorily complete the aircraft checkout process including 10hrs dual flight instruction in the aircraft with at least one cross-country flight.

• Checkout procedure includes approximately 3hrs of one-on-one ground instruction focusing on normal, abnormal, emergency procedures, aircraft systems (turbocharging, oxygen, constant-speed propeller, GFC-700), VNAV, WAAS, high-altitude physiology, icing, glass-cockpit, etc.

• *Lesser checkout times may apply to ATP, CFI, or pilots with 25hrs in 182 Skylanes as well as other turbocharged piston aircraft in the last 24mo. Eligibility is assessed solely at the discretion of Sawyer Aviation.

• Overnight/Multi-day rental/time-building flights are allowed.

• International flights allowed³
